How Stable is Our Power Grid?

solar-panelTed Koppel a 42-year veteran of ABC News, winning very significant TV awards including 8 Peabody Awards, 11 overseas Press Club Awards and 42 Emmys states, “It is not if it will happen, but When” in his recently released book Lights Out. This book is a must read for all of us. Will you be prepared if a blackout lasting not days, but weeks or months occurs? Tens of millions of people over several states are affected. For those without access to a generator there is nosolar-power running water, no sewer, no refrigeration or light. Food and medical supplies are dwindling. Devices we rely on have gone dark, banks no longer function, looting is widespread and law and order are being tested as never before.

And yet as Koppel makes clear the Federal Government, while well-prepared for natural disasters, has no plan for the aftermath of an attack on our power grid. This possible attack is being addressed more and more in our media. Our grid is old and is so connected that a blackout in one area will affect another. Can you guess who in our country is the most prepared? Koppel states the Mormon communities.

Let us pray this never happens.
